Buy this CD

I have new favorite song...It's by Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, I think the album is titled the same as the song, and the song is "Dream Big." Seriously, buy the CD. I wish I would of had this song to play for all my students last year because it's such a good message. Just read the lyrics...that's enough to sell you on the whole thing:

Dream Big

When you cry, be sure to dry your eyes,
'Cause better days are sure to come.
And when you smile, be sure to smile wide,
And don't let them know that they have won.
And when you walk, walk with pride,
And don't show the hurt inside,
Because the pain will soon be gone.
(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
But when you dream, dream big.
And when you laugh, be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty all around and in yourself,
And it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to help you carry on,
But when the troubles come your way.
(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
But when you dream, dream big.
And when you laugh be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty all around and in yourself,
and it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to help you carry on
when the troubles come your way.
(Chorus)
See, I told you it was an awesome song.....go buy it now for yourself...get it for your ipods and other electronical paraphernalia (Bob and Sarah, I'm talking to you....! ha)

August 10th

I had a birthday recently, and turned 26. 26. I can't believe how fast time has gone by. I spent this past summer working with an awesome group of high schoolers and for a minute there I for some reason thought I was the same age as them. It's so weird. I don't feel old, but I am getting there. It became clear to me one night at a sleep over when all the girls were talking about "Laguna Beach" and "One Tree Hill" and all these "hot guys" who were on these shows. I HAD NO CLUE WHO THEY WERE!!! I might as well have showed up blazing my MC Hammer cassette, and wearing my parachute pants. Then I found out the hot guys they were talking about were around 16 years old! 10 YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME!

I still consider myself young I guess, I still know how to relate to the "younger generation" I can still "kick it" I can "hang" with the kids. (Ok, I'm just kidding....) I loved this summer, I loved the experience, it was probably one of the best summers of my life. Seeing how I still look like I'm 17 years old, I guess that I can get away with some things that other "adults" wouldn't. I just can't believe how old I really am. It seems like just a couple years ago that I was in high school myself...It's been almost 10 years already!

In an attempt to claim some of my youth, I've made a list of some things I still do that I did when I was a child...don't laugh, you probably do some of these things too.....don't lie.

1. I still love fruit roll ups
2. When I'm sick I still love to be babied (is that how you spell that word? Is that a word?) Especially by my husband, my favorite man in the universe.
3. I love my two dogs (Atticus and Miles) and will probably cry and cry like a little girl when they die.
4. I love the muppet show (yes, I bought the first season...)
5. I like surprises
6. I still buy stickers (ok, I'm a teacher, this one doesn't really count does it???)
7. I love and can't wait for Christmas every year
8. I still want to run out of school at the end of the day screaming because I'm so glad to get out of there...
9. I like watching saturday morning cartoons...(when I don't sleep in)
10. I love colorful socks
11. I like to be tucked in (only by Jason)

Um...stay tuned, more will be added later. It's late and I'm getting old, I need to go to bed...

School Supplies

Well, school started back up this week, and it sure has been interesting. Since I was changing schools, I packed up all of my teaching supplies to bring them home for the summer. Since we live in a 2 bedroom apartment my school stuff has been left somewhere in between the "office" and the "living room." i was excited when 3 weeks ago the principal said we could start moving into our rooms and I could finally get the "stuff" out of our living space....! Well, when my husband and I went to the school, we unlocked the door to the room and saw that someone had intentionally clogged the sink with the faucet on full blast....which meant that the whole building (kind of like a "pod" with 6 adjoining classrooms...) was flooded with 45,000 - 75,000 dollars worth of damage. GRRRRRR. Not only could we not move in, but we won't be able to get into our rooms for awhile....which means my "stuff" is still in boxes in my living room. Well, they found a small space for me to fit my 30 students...and I should be thankful that everything is going good so far. I refuse to unpack all my boxes when I'm just going to have to go and move into my "real" classroom later. So, I'm just kind of winging it now, which I hate. Everything seems so unorganized, and my classroom (or I should say closet) isn't as CUTE as I want it to be...as a matter of fact, it's boring.
I am at the same district, but a new school which is closer to my apartment and it seems like such a culture shock. The students all come from a low income area, and are quite a bit lower academically than my class last year (which the school was located in a more "well to do" area.) The truth is, I LOVE IT!! Yesterday I gave out some scratch n sniff stickers and by their reactions you would have thought I handed them each a 100 dollar bill! It was awesome. Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken, so the reading level is probably at more of a 1st grade level. I am very stressed about the whole situation, but at the same time, I'm excited to see what will happen. My students are so stinking cute too...and I love how they call me "maestra" or "teacher." It is also fun to try and pronounce their Spanish names, because some of the names are really hard (like "Maigualida") and I am so bad at saying them...and when I try, they all giggle at me because I butcher it! I think this will be a very interesting year...once I get to move into my REAL classroom and make it as cute as I want!

Any suggestions on the language barrier "stuff?"

p.s. my pregnancy has been going awesome, I'm really starting to feel him kicking, and I even see my belly moving sometimes now...it's so weird. This whole process has been very strange for me, and now that it's becoming more real to me, I'm getting more and more excited....even though I have no clue about anything about babies...yikes.

More Baby Registry Questions:

2. How many receiving blankets do I need - I don't want over do it.

3. What is a good website to check the quality or reviews of items like cribs, strollers etc.?
