Spring Break!

Finally

Monday, March 14, 2005

One down...

...three to go. Oh yes, this is my last week before spring break! Thursday we have a field trip, so it's basically only 2 more days. Woo hoo. I can't believe how fast time has gone...it just seemed like a few weeks ago we were getting back from winter break. Today I had my first observation from the president of the organization. I think it went ok. I didn't know she was coming around, and she kind of caught me in the middle of a transition...but my students were so well behaved during the time she was in there. I was so proud of them. I also found a way to keep my "hyper active" student still. It was a suggestion from another teacher...he let me borrow a big excercise ball and told me to replace the ball with the child's chair. The student would then focus more of their energy on keeping his balance rather than moving around and getting out of his seat. Sure enough, it worked! The student stayed in his seat almost the whole day...he even participated and stayed attentive! It was awesome! I talked with his parents about it, and they were very excited about the little experiement, and wanted me to keep trying it. So we will see about that!

My home away from home

I knew it was bad whenever I walked into Staples office supply store and the guy at the counter says..."Hey I haven't seen you in awhile, where have you been?" Um, yeah, maybe I've spent a little too much time buying school supplies...

1000 book challenge

This week we reached 500 books! I think we are at 520 now, but I'm not too sure...

It's been a good week

Today is Thursday and since we don't have school on Fridays today was a crazy one! Plus the first grade teacher was out, so I ended up having a combined first/second grade class today...whew. It has been a pretty good day, and overall a pretty good week. Spring break is looking better and better...only one more week of school left. Oh yeah, I think we decided what we are going to do with our extra money...spend it on furniture! I know, it doesn't sound as nice as a cruise...but I'm tired of using old milk crates for bookshelves!! We will probably also go to a few spring training games...who knows. Enjoy the weekend everyone.

It's Monday and I don't wanna go to school tomorrow

I just don't wanna go. I think I'm sick...yeah, my tummy hurts. I'm not going. I never should have taken that first sick day, because now I want to call in everyday!

We have been very busy preparing for the AIMS tests. The state is also coming in this week to make their observations. It is very scary for me. I have only been observed one time this whole year...and I got very little feedback. Am I doing things right? Wrong? I have no idea! I have also never been observed by the state people before, so I'm nervous. I don't know what to expect. I have a feeling the second they walk into my classroom all hell will break loose. Lord, help me, I just don't want to do this.

I have been tossing around the idea of not going back into the classroom next year. I was thinking of seeing how profitable it would be to do some sort of homeschool teaching. I heard of someone I know who teaches Spanish for homeschoolers and I got to thinking, why couldn't I do something like that? I know there are probably a lot of homeschooling parents out there who aren't quite sure of how to teach a certain subject (for instance, Reading...), and maybe I could help. Who knows...it's just something I'm thinking about. I was also thinking of maybe becoming a truck driver. I'll get back to you on that.

I had a wonderful talk with one of my parents today. It was nice to hear that someone thinks I'm doing something correctly! She also offered to help me grade papers if needed! Um....if needed....IF NEEDED??? uh yeah....where were you at the beginning of the year??!!!???? I'm just kidding...anyway, it was nice to talk with a happy parent for a change...

The Bachlorette

Jason has been gone this week at a conference in California. Although I am glad to have a little time to myself, I am also ready for him to come home. I realized that I have never been by myself...I grew up with my family, went to college and had a roommate, then I got married...I've never been alone! So, although it is nice and quiet I do miss him...oh, and so do the dogs.

1000 book challenge

In January I challenged my students to read 1000 books by the end of the year. This was a big challenge for them, but we have been doing well. For each book the students read they must fill out a book review sheet and have a parent sign it to prove they really read the book. My students have been working hard (some a lot harder than others...) and today they reached 410 books! I am so proud of them! But I just don't know if they will make the 1000 by the middle of May....
